Manhattan Bridge approach from
the Bowery, now under construc-
tion. The plaza and arch are simi-
lar to the Porte St. Denis in Paris,
the colonnade similar in effect to
that of St. Peters in Rome. The
surface cars will be back of the
colonnade on the north side, while
the elevated and subway trains will
approach the bridge on an elevated
structure to the south.
