HARTFORD, Capital of the State of Connecti-
cut, is an important commercial and manu-
facturing city. It is called the Insurance City,
due to the fact that every insurance company
of note has its main offices in Hartford. One
of the largest insurance companies in the
world, The Travelers Insurance Company, has
erected an imposing structure here which
ranks in height with some of the tallest build-
ings of New England.
The State House is a beautiful building
erected in 1880 at a cost of $3,100,000. The
city has many parks; Bushnell Park and Eliz-
abeth Park are among the largest. The Rose
Gardens in Elizabeth Park are the most beau-
tiful in the country.
