VIRGINIA DEER
(Odocoileus virginianus)
The Virginia deer or white-tail is the best known of the
larger animals in our eastern states. This fleet creature
does not move in herds and does not migrate but feeds
within a narrow range, summer and winter. Only the
bucks have antlers, and these are shed every year in
January.
