The American Museum of natural History New York, U. S. A. Alaska Brown Bear (Ursus gyas) This big bear has recently awakened from his long winter sleep, probably in a cave high on the mountains. He came down to the lowlands to find food. The Alaska bears depend largely on the hordes of salmon that ascend the streams to spawn each year. Here a salmon has been killed and dragged out by an otter, Which was obliged to leave it to the bear. Hall of North American Mammals. |
