THE MEMORIAL AMPHITHEATRE is situated on
an eminence in Arlington, Va., and overlooks Washington.
It is built of white marble in the form of an ellipse, the
front formed by a Temple facing the Lincoln Memorial
across the Potomac in Washington. The view as pictured
here was taken from an aeroplane and shows the Amphi-
theatre turfed and open to the sky above. The cost of the
building was $1,000,000. Directly in front is the Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier whose body, brought from France
by General Pershing, was buried with impressive ceremonies
on November 11th. 1921.
