"999" RACER,
THE HENRY FORD MUSEUM and
Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan
The famous old "999" did a spectacular
91.4 miles per hour with Henry Ford at the
"tiller" in 1904. He broke the mile-a minute
record on the winter ice of Lake St. Clair,
crashing through a snowdrift and narrowly
missing a marooned schooner.
Barney Oldfield, famous driver, won his
first race in the "999" because he had never
driven before and didn't know how to operate
the brakes.
