Additional Details:
One of the surprising feats of modern building is the cog railroad, built from Manitou to the summit of Pike's Peak. The elevation at the point where the road begins is 6,309 feet. The summit is 14,109 feet above sea level. Thus the cog road climbs nearly 8,000 feet in its journey to the summit, which covers a distance of about fifteen miles. The picture shows the road as it seales the lower parts of the mountain, with the snow-capped peak, its ultimate goal, visible in the distance.
