| The Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) on the 8550-foot summit of Mt. Hopkins. The combined apertures of the six mirrors are equivalent to a 4.5-meter (176-inch) single mirror reflector, thus making the MMT the world's third largest optical telescope. The first of its type, the MMT is a joint project of the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Arizona. |
