"Daylight" locomotive 4449 is seen heading north on the
Southern Pacific "Shasta Route." The train has crested the
railroad's highest point on the line, the 5,063-foot summit at
Grass Lake, California. Here at Bray it is descending from
the shoulders of Mt. Shasta to Butte Valley, and then on to
