Wayside Inn South Sudbury, Mass. In 1686 known as Howe's Tavern, later as Red Horse Tavern. Lafayette and soldiers on way to and from the Colonial Wars stayed here. Longfellow made it famous as his setting for "Tales of a Wayside Inn." "A region of repose it seems A place of slumber and of dreams Remote among the wooded hills!"
