This Gothic Revival Castle was designed by Alex-
ander Jackson Davis in 1838, then enlarged by Davis
in 1865. The structure was purchased in 1880 by Jay
Gould, who willed it to his daughter Helen. It was
later acquired by another daughter, Anna, Duchess
of Talleyrand-Perigord, who left it in 1964 to the
National Trust for Historic Preservation.
