This dam, the finest in the country and the second longest overflow in the world, was begun in June 1895 and completed in January 1900, at a cost of $1,000,000. It is 1,019 feet long, and is built across the Connecticut River, which falls 60 feet in the course of a mile, affording an immense water power.
