THE PUEBLO INDIAN is a dweller in sub-
stantial villages with houses rising from one to
five stories in height and bordering on regular
streets or courts. In character he is peaceful, in-
dustrious and conservative. The occupation of the
men is largely confined to agriculture; the women
are the house builders and owners, and engage
extensively in the making of pottery, which is
decorated with geometrical and symbolical
designs.
