On the terrace grounds of the Capitol are
several handsome pieces of statuary, a fine
equestrian statue of President Jackson, the
tomb of President Polk and the Sam Davis
Monument. Tennessee State Capitol Building
was erected in 1845-1853, at a cost of $2,500,-
000.00. The architectural idea is that of a
Greek Ionic Temple. Located on an eminence
175 feet above the Cumberland River, height
of building 75 feet 8 inches.
