Additional Details:
Coit Tower was erected on Telegraph Hill in memory of Lillie Hitchcock from funds left by her to beautify San Francisco. From the top a commanding view of the Docks and the Bay may be had. It also looks down on Alcatraz Island, now a Federal prison and the far Marin Hills on the opposite side. Lillie Coit was a San Francisco pioneer who took an active interest in the city and was decorated with the Gold Star of the V. F. Deot
