STARVED ROCK. ILLINOIS STATE PARK
Contains about 1.000 acres, located in La Salle
County. One of the first objects the tourist observes
on his arrival at this Park, and one which he
sure to pay a visit, is this historical monument-
STARVED ROCK-from which the Park derives EB27
its name. How odd it seems today to view this
strange reminder of the past-this pre-historic monotoni
arch, standing thus for unnumbered centuries, defy-
ing wind and weather: festooned with foliage: upon
1946
its summit forest oaks and singing pines lifting /
high their heads in majesty, while echoing cliffs
resound their anthems day and night!
