The Roosevelt expedition. The party is called the Smithsonian African Expedition and has the object of securing specimens of the fauna and flora of mid-Africa. J. Alden Loring is an expert collector of small mammals and birds. Edmund Heller, another member of the party, is a trained naturalist and was with the field Columbian Expedition. Col. Edgar Mearns is a physician and retired officer of the regular army and is an authority on zoology botany. Kermit Roosevelt is the official photographer. R. J. Cunninghame, guilde and manager, is a noted English hunter. E. C. Selous, a noted African hunter, also spent some time with the party. |
