It will be good for you to come to Seattle a little later in the summer. We are going to give a big Potlatch and have lots of fun. We very much want you to come and stay with us. Please Pass the world along to other friends. The word “Potlatch” is taken from the Chinook Jargon. The Indians Potlatch is a great feast given by the chief to all of the tribes roundabout, whence the guests return to their tepees laden with gifts after a week of almost profligate hospitality. Seattle has expanded the definition to cover its magnificent annual spectacle, “The Golden Potlatch,” which is, in its every feature, a “free” feast spread for the whole world and its brother.
