The Challenger heading toward its third earth-
orbital mission is featured in the official insignia for STS-8. The
numerical designation for the mission is represented by the more
conspicuous stars in the right side of the circular insignia. Astro-
nauts Richard H. Truly and Daniel C. Brandenstein, commander
and pilot, respectively, are noted at the top of the patch and
astronauts Dale A. Gardner, Guion S. Bluford and William B.
Thornton-all mission specialists - have their surnames listed at
the bottom.
