President Ronald Reagan, in his role of "Com-
mander-in-Chief" of the Armed Forces, made his
first visit to an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Con-
stellation, 55 miles off the California_coast.
reaffirmed his pledge of "a 600 ship Navy... a
Navy large enough to deter any aggressions."
After viewing air and sea operations, the elated
President was heard to enthusiastically declare
the entire visit, "a Yankee Doodle Day." Aug-
