President Reagan happily discusses foreign affairs with
his new Secretary of State, George P. Schultz, 61, former
president of Bechtel Corporation. Reagan accepted Alex-
ander Haig's sudden resignation with regret, but appeared
to be glad to have a loyal Republican team player as a
replacement. Since there was war in the Middle East and
another in the South Atlantic simmering down, the Presi-
dent was in due need of a skilled manager, conservative
economist all in all, a sensible calming choice who was
a Washington veteran with contacts around the world.
