The Ninth Economic Summit meeting was held in colonial Williamsburg, a far cry form the grand palaces of Versailles, the site of last year's meeting. President Reagan made a splendid choice, for not only is this town a reminder of the limits of power of freedom; but, it was a gathering place of ideas that shaped America and influenced the world. The heads of state pause to view some of the Colonial arts and crafts on view in front of Raleigh Tavern. From left: President Ronald Ragan; Chancellor Helmut Kohn of West Germany; Prime minister Amintore Fanani of Italy; Gaston Thorne of the European Community; Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of Great Britain; President Francois Mitterrand of France and Prime minister Pierre Trudeau of Canada. May 29, 1983.
