Fernando Valenzuela, the phenomenon of the
Los Angeles Dodgers, and Mexican President
Jose Lopez Portillo were guests at a White House
luncheon. What a prodigious year for this young
sportsman! He won a World Series victory;
National League Rookie of the year laurels;
the Cy Young Award for the league's most
outstanding pitcher - and he married lovely
Linda Margarita Buros, an elementary school-
teacher. Valenzuela, a cool rookie on the mound,
perspired profusely throughout the marriage o
ceremony. He said, "I'm in love, and in the
United States it's hard living alone, not knowing
the language and the way of life." July 9, 1981
