President Reagan and Nancy visit a German bunker at
Pointe du Hoc, Normandy. French President, Francois
Mitterand, delivering the gathering's only speech, gave
thanks to the 10,000 Allied soldiers who lost their lives on
D-Day while helping to deliver France from captivity. Presi-
dent Reagan dedicated a plaque to the 2nd and 5th Ranger
Battalions who had secured the beach and scaled the
sheer cliffs under murderous gunfire. June 6, 1984
