Nancy Reagan befriends a hospitalized tot at the Univer-
sity Of Mississippi Medical Center. In the past two years
Nancy has become a shining political plus, as she "wins
friends and influences people" at carefully selected
events. "She has become more of a person in her own
right," says an aide, "and no longer just President
Reagan's wife." She delivers speeches more often and
more effectively, and hired an outside writer to provide her
with new, improved materials. She opened her arms to a
young drug addict at a rehabilitation clinic, spent time
with drug-addicted jail inmates, and devoted energy to the
Foster Grandparents Program. An observer has declared
her to be as "good an instinctive politician as her husband.
She's more tactical, he's more strategic." November 4,
