THE CAPITOL of NORTH CAROLINA at RALEIGH
The State Capitol, started in 1833 and finished in 1840,
replaces the first state house which burned in 1831.
Originally this building housed all of North Carolina's
State Government; as the state grew, new buildings
were built around Capitol Square; the State Department
Building, etc. The new Legislative Building, one block
north of the capitol, is the only building in the United
States devoted exclusively to the law making branch
of government.
