UTAH was founded in 1847 by a company of
"Mormon" pioneers under the leadership of
Brigham Young. The Beehive was chosen as an
emblem signifying industry. Utah became a
state in 1896. This seal was adopted April 3, 1896
by the first state legislature which was held in
Salt Lake City from January to April 1896.
