Governor's Palace, Williamsburg, Virginia
Reconstructed on its old foundations, the Governor's
Palace is the symbol of the power and prestige of the
Crown in colonial Virginia. It was the official residence
of seven royal governors from 1720 until June, 1775,
when British rule in Virginia ended for all time. It was
also the executive mansion of the commonwealth of Vir-
ginia's first two governors, Patrick Henry and Thomas
Jefferson.
