Series 46
Greenfinch (Ligurinus chloris). Who that has ever walked beside a headge in late autumn has not startled a flock of gay greenish - yellow birds into flight? These are greenfinches (length 6 inches; wing 3'5 inche) who have been picking up corn in the stubble fields. The finch is with us all the year round. He builds an untidy nest of mixed materials, and in it his mate lays six pale-blue eggs a little spotted at one end. The greenfinch has cheery little song frequently repeated. |
