Key was held, under truce, aboard an Eng-
Iish Frigate during the bombardment of Fort
McHenry, Baltimore, September 14, 1814.
Through the night he anxiously watched the
shelling of the historic fortress: at dawning
"our flag was still there," inspiration for the
writing of Our National Anthem. Key's Mon-
ument and Burial Place is in Frederick.
