Additional Details:
Construction was begun on June 1, 1934 and the track was opened in August 1934. Narragansett was the first in the East to adopt the photo-finish camera, a mechanical starting gate, all of whlol are now “standard equipment” at all tracks. Narragansett Park is made available for all communities charitable and religious functions. Periodically it is the scene of a monster religious demonstration under the direction of the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Providence. Annually the Palestine Temple holds the mammoth Shrine Circus for the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital Fund. Model Airplane Flight Contests, Soap box auto exhibitions and other community events are held annually.
