NEW MEXICO!!!
1536 (four hundred and four years) 1940
The most historic State in the U.S. A.
First visited by Cabeza de Vaca and his
three ill-fated companions in 1536. Their tolos
caused the Spaniards to send Fray "Marcode FEB !!
guide Estavan was killed at Zuni Indiane il 6 PM
lage and Fray Marcos made a hasty retreat is
to Mexico City ... the following year, 1540,
Coronado made his famous Entrada. The fleste
Spanish colony was founded in the name of
the King of Spain in 1598 ... during the Indian
Rebellion in 1680 most of the priests and col-
onists were killed, the survivors fleeing to
Mexico. In 1692 De Vargas reconquered the
province under the flag of Spain. Mexico
gained her independence from Spain in 1821
... in the year 1846 the province was sur-
rendered to the U.S. A. and remained a terri.
tory until 1912, when it was admitted to state-
hood. Though one of the oldest settlements, it
is the youngest state in the Union and the
least known. Its wonderful scenery, delightful
climate, primitive Indian and Spanish inhabi-
tants and customs, all add to the interest and
curiosity of the visitor to this "land of manana."
