| This whale was killed by Capt. Joshua Nickerson in the steamer A. B. Nickerson, and was one of the largest of the Finback species ever taken here and measured as follows; length, 65 feet, 4 inches. Across the tail, 14 feet, 6 inches, Length of lower jaw, 11 feet, Length of fins, 10 feet. Girth, 37 feet, Weight, 136 tons. Capacity of mouth when closed, 30 barrels. |
