Thru the heart of the Continent, from the
Atlantic to the Pacific slope of America, the
Moffat Tunnel, 50 miles by rail from Denver,
bores 6.2 miles under James Peak. Apex of
the tunnel is 4021 ft. under the summit of the
peak, which rears its lofty crest 13,260 ft.
above sea level. The Moffat Tunnel Route of
the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad
places Denver on its first and only direct
transcontinental railroad.
