Camp Croft was named after Maj. Gen. Edward Croft, a native of nearby Greenville, S. C. who died in 1938. General Crofts name was used upon suggestion of Brig. Gen. Louis A. Kunzig, commander of Camp Croft upon its activation in February, 1941.
