The Mariners' Museum was founded in 1930 by Archer M.
Huntington. The Museum is devoted to the culture of the sea
and its tributaries, its conquest by man, and its influence
on civilization. The Museum is educational in purpose and
world-wide in scope. Its aim is to display the maritime ac-
complishments of all times and every nation. The buildings
are surrounded by a huge park which has a beautiful artificial
lake.
