The International Union of the American Repub-
lics is the outcome of an international American
Conference held in 1889, Its principal aim is the
cementing of ties of friendship, between the vari-
ous Republics of the New World, to encourage the
upbuilding of profitable trade relations between the
United States and her Southern neighbors, and to
bring about international co-operation for the best
interests of all the republics. It was erected at a
cost of $1,000,000 contributed by Mr. Andrew Car-
negie and by the twenty-one American Nations in-
cluding the United States.
