The New Interior Department, one of the latest and largest government buildings in Washington, Covers the whole square bounded by 18th and 19th E. and F Sts., N. W. In the lower right hand of the picture may be seen the famous Octagon House, built in 1598 and occupied by president Madison when the white House was burned in the British in 1814.
