A State Hospital for the care and treatment of the mentally sick. Construction begun May 1, 1874. Opened for the reception of patients May 13, 1878. Now cares for more than 1500 patients. The hospital may be visited on any day though friends and relatives desiring to consult physicians regarding patients are requested to call on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and the first Sunday of the month. The hospital is located on the Newburyport turnpike at Hathorne, Mass., and may readily be reached by automobile; by the B. & M. R. R.; by electrics from Salem to Hathorne, Middleton and Lawrence.
