Located on the Pacific Coast five miles south of San Clemente, Calif., this station will be the world's largest operating nuclear generating plant when completed in 1967. With a capacity of 450,000 kilowatts - enough power to supply a city of more than half-million population - the plant is being built by two investor-owned utilities, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric. The two companies will share the costs and output of the station - Edison, 80% and San Diego Gas & Electric, DG&E, 20%. |
