Series 39 The Alabama State Docks, at Mobile, on Mobile Bay. These Docks, representing a present valuation in excess of $20,000,000, have raised Mobile in recent years to the rank of sixth port in the nation. Through the Docks moves a tremendous tonnage to and from all the important ports of the world. Constructed by the State of Alabama at an original cost exceeding $10,000,000, the Docks are now undergoing expansion costing approximately $4,000,000 more. Accompanying the erection of the Docks there has been a very great growth of manufacturing plants and port facilities all around them. |
