Crowded and noisy as is Ludgate Hill, it nevertheless gives us one of the best and most memorable views of Saint Paul's Cathedral. Near the bottom of Ludgate Hill is La Belle Sauvage Yard formerly an inn; now it contains the huge printing offices of Cassell & Company. Here, where now the Ludgate Hill Railway Viaduct crosses the street, stood once Lud Gate, one of the five ancient gates of London. |
