Field Museum of Natural History, Stanley Field Hall. The skin of the Hippopotamus cannot be preserved successfully by ordinary methods. In this specimen, the animal has been reproduced in cellulose acetate, a material resembling celluloid. The process is one developed by L. L. Walters of Field Museum's staff and produces exceedingly lifelike results.
