Series Z-1 Field Museum of Natural History. Stanley Field Hall. There are only two species of elephants now living, the African and the Indian. The African species has enormous ears, a bulging rounded forehead, a concave back, and large tusks in both sexes. The famous elephant Jumbo belonged to the African species, but the common elephant of menageries is the Indian Elephant. Collected and prepared by Carl E. Akeley. |
