The Calf represented on this card is the young of the domestic Bull and Cow, or Common Ox, Its skin makes excellent leather, and is greatly used for bookbinding and the making of boots. The flesh of the Calf is called veal and is much esteemed. The name calf is also applied to the young of the elephant, the Hippopotamus, the Bison, the Buffalo, nad various othr mamals."
