The Elephant. (Elephas indicus.) Elephants are found in Africa, India, Ceylon, Burma, the Malay Peninsula, Cochin-China, Sumatra and Borneo. They live in heards, are captrued by the aid of tame Elephant,s and are easily subdued. When tamed, they became one of the most useful of domestic animals on account of their enormous strength, intelligence and obedience. Tne The african elephant is larger than that found in Asia. The well-known African-Elephant "Jumbo" that ended its days in the Unted States. Measured eleven feet at the shoulder and weighed six-and-a-half tons. The species on this card is an Indian Elephant." |
