The Barn-Owl. (Strix vflammea.) There are great numbers of varieties ofOwls, the Barn-Owl being one of the most common. Owls are to be met with in all parts of the world, some but five inches high, while others are as large as two feet, the females as a rule being larger than the males. The head is always very large, and the eyes round and staring, and the eyesight at night very acute. Their food consists of birds, mice, moles and similar animals, while some species, including the Barn-Owl prey on fish." |
