British Freshwater Fish Series 9368 The Pike is common in the British Isles, where it is generally to be found in slow running weedy rivers and lakes. In size it often exceds 3 feet. It is a very ferucious and audacious fish. The Chub frequents deep holes in clear waters, coming to the surface in warm weather. It occasioonally attains a weight of between 6 and 7 lbs., but this is rare. The Gudgeon is gregarious in its habits, and prefers running water with a sandy or gravelly bed. It reaches in length 8 inches and more." |
