George Gorden sixth Lord Byron the poet, was born in Holles Street. Cavendish square, London on 22nd of January, 1788. He was educated at Hatrow and Trinity Colleges, Cambridge. His chief poiems are "Childe Harold," "Don Juan," "the Stage of Corinth" and the Celebrated satire" Rnhlidh Bards and scotch Reviewers." Byron's poetical influence in his own country for a time swept all before it, but it gradually abated its force, and is now almost nonexistent. He died in Greece on 19th April, 1824, his body being brought to England and buried near Newstead." |
