Was erected in commemoration of the miraculous delivery of the "Mormon" pioneers from starvation. In the early summer of 1848, their first wheat crop was threatened with destruction by hordes of crickets. After all normal measures had failed, the Saints offered up prayers for their deliverance. Almost immediately, swarms of sea gulls flew in from the Great Lake to the west to devour the pests and save the crops.
